Soulful Toaster is run by me, Emma and a small team of helpers - hello!

I’ve had a love of everything retro before I even really understood what the term meant. Having collected objects and furniture for years the idea finally clicked, to put my passion and my knowledge to good use and make Soulful Toaster what it really should be; an eclectic emporium for vintage and retro items!

Soulful Toaster has been trading since 2008, gaining lots of lovely press coverage for our range of home accessories and gifts. We are now sourcing our vintage ranges from all over the UK, concentrating on items from the 1930’s to early 1980’s.

The furniture and objects we find are lovingly cleaned, restored or reworked to enable you to fill your home with unique objects which make you smile and evoke that lovely feeling of nostalgia.

Well, who are we?

We're a group of women who have developed a social enterprise centred on a vintage clothes shop! We range in ages from early 20s to more than that - and some are almost (but not quite) antique! We're from a range of backgrounds and originate from all over the UK but are now living in Abergavenny and the surrounding area.
We all volunteer in the shop, which is the ideal place to meet new friends. Some volunteers are in the shop for a couple of hours a few times a month, those with more time on their hands volunteer every week, but all agree it is a fun and rewarding place to be. Some of the volunteers know a lot about vintage clothes, some know very little but are learning fast.

What we do and how we do it is a little more difficult to explain....

Source vintage clothes from individual donations;
teach women to sew, fix, remodel and love vintage clothes;
hold fashion shows to remind us all how great vintage clothes look;
run workshops with schools and colleges on vintage fashion;
offer work experience to women who want to go back to work;

Bag End Bags grew out of a collection of over 35 years - we downsized, and when in the process of moving house, my husband kept opening moving bags marked "summer linen/cushions" to find they contained handbags! Since I am now at that age when you either do something different, or spend the rest of your life saying "why didn't I do that?", I decided to open a shop for women like myself, searching for that perfect handbag!

I have now been trading since February 2007 and have already moved location once in April 2008 to my present shop at 3 Cross Street, Seaton, Devon, EX12 2LH. Our current location is a treasure trove of bags and gifts, and the stock is an enticing mixture of vintage and nouveau bags for others and yourself!

The bags in store are a mixture of vintage, ends of lines, handmade, ethnic, retro and new handbags for every occasion. From Whiting and Davis through Le Soir, to the retro Jane Shilton and Suzy Smith; our stock features not only evening bags, but also day bags for every eventuality; vintage scarves, tapestry work bags, hats, gloves, muffs, and even packets of 1960s stockings! Our website will mainly feature the rare and speciality items, from retro and vintage to hard to find pre-loved handbags and has a range of classic silk scarves and smaller gifts for those looking for the perfect vintage gift.

I personally make a great number of private buys from customers and local ladies, so will very often have provenance on a handbag e.g. "this bag was bought for my daughter's wedding in June 1968". I buy from a lot of older women so, in most cases, you will be only the second owner of a very well cared for handbag. By buying a vintage or retro bag you are contributing to a greener planet, and with that, the majority of our packaging and padding for postage will be recycled, where possible, to maximise our efficiency. The bags themselves are a wide mixture of leather, fabric or other materials but full details of each bag will of course be given in the item descriptions.

Retromania is a unique vintage charity shop based in Pimlico, London. We are part of the Fara Charity organisation which has projects in Romania to help disabled and disadvantaged children in some of the poorest areas of the country.

Preserved started trading back in 2005 when two young ladies who had a passion for vintage clothing decided to set up a stall in the Heritage market Liverpool.

From then on they both went to University studying fashion related courses. They carried Preserved on throughout University expanding the business and attended various vintage fairs throughout the United Kingdom.
